A pleasant walk, perfect for families with children, all the way to the Montagnoli artificial lake, a great spot for a picnic or to simply relax surrounded by beautiful scenery, a natural terrace among the Dolomites.
The Lago Montagnoli lake is located just below the Rifugio Montagnoli mountain hut, in an area called Pian della Zedola, along the Spinale mountainside at a height of 1764 m, and in summer it’s the perfect destination for a pleasant walk.
It’s possible to reach the lake by going downwards from the arrival area of the Spinale gondola lift, from here you can follow the tracks of the winter ski slope and in just 30 minutes a pleasant walk will take you right to the Lago Montagnoli lake.
The Lago Montagnoli lake is the largest Italian water storage basin used for snowmaking operations. It’s an actual alpine lake: 36 000 m² that can store up to 200.000 m³ of water, used during winter so that the snow cannons along the slopes can quickly produce snow to cover the high number of kilometres of slopes in the Madonna di Campiglio ski resort. It was designed and built by the Funivie di Madonna di Campiglio lift company and it definitely does not look like an artificial construction. It looks just like a natural lake in an alpine setting surrounded by conifer trees: in fact, it was designed to perfectly blend into the surroundings starting from its shape.
